Inspiration—Writing mysteries is a genre that allows one’s imagination to go into overdrive. People often ask, where do you get your inspiration. I say inspiration is all around us. For instance, look at the following picture of a stack of pancakes. Now to the average person this is just a high caloric, diabetic breakfast but think, what if this is the last meal of a deceased person laying somewhere nearby. Did the pancakes kill him, are the pancakes poison, did the decease choke on his meal, or are they a red herring and have no bearing on the fictious dead body. Allow your imagination to stretch. Some of our most common occurrences can be used as a basis for writing fiction.
P.S. if you’re interested these pancakes can be found at Griddle in Los Angeles, CA.
